Perspective is usually the first casualty of a sporting defeat. A couple of hours ago the Boks – by some accounts – were one Perth game away from effectively wrapping up the Tri-Nations series. I know Australia is the land of dream-time, but come on! We’re just getting started.
That said, hyperbole sells newspapers and generates blog traffic so how’s this for a SHOCKING, ATTENTION-GRABBING – and essentially meaningless – soundbite: rookie coach Robbie Deans remains the only undefeated coach in the 2008 Tri-Nations. That’s right – the least experienced coach in the tournament has a 100% SUCCESS RATE. In fact Deans is the WINNINGEST COACH in 3N history.
Yawn.
